British actor Jason Newell has established himself as one to watch in 2016 on the acting scene and he is already developing an award scheme with international charity MMBF Trust to give back and support other filmmakers, creatives and talent who are starting up.
Announcing the yet to be named scheme MMBF’s new Chair Megan Turner told AllIndieMagazine ‘We are excited to be working with the very talented Jason Newell, I for one am a big fan. I first saw him in Unleaded and I was very impressed. Part of my role at MMBF is to ensure that we are working with some of the industries rising stars to tackle various issues the film and performing arts industries are both facing, working with Jason puts us one step closer to this’
Jason is an actor with a very extensive CV. The East Londoner appears in “Unleaded” Dir. By Luke Davis where he stars as the lead role, Callum opposite Josef Altin. Most recently Jason worked closely alongside world famous hip-hop group, The Wu-Tang Clan on a documentary about the influence that they have had in the last two decades on the UK hip-hop and rap music scene. His cameo roles to date include “The Anomaly” (2014) featuring alongside Ian Somerhalder and Noel Clarke. Jason studied at Kingdom School of Arts and The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute of New York to name a few.
MMBF Trust have currently worked with Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Time Zone Theatre, a variety of film festivals around the UK and have most recently run competitions with Total Talent, Great Worqs and with filmmaker Emma Dark. The charity that works to support actors and filmmakers around the world distributed 297 scholarships and grants in the year ending 2015 which was a record figure for the arts charity.
MMBF founder Matthew C. Martino wasn’t available for comment but Sharon Harris from his rep told us ‘Its very exciting times indeed and we share with Matthew the pride of having the opportunity to work with Jason’.
A staged and dramatic photoshoot for the scheme is being arranged to be shot in London during February and Jason Newell and MMBF Trust invite all interested models and actors to email firstname.lastname@example.org stating their interest in being part of the shoot.
