Comedian Bill Bailey spoke of his joy and sadness on Friday after his stolen tour vanwas found – but crashed into a shocked stranger’s car.
The Never Mind The Buzzcocks star, 51, appealed on social media when his Mercedes Sprinter tour van was taken from outside Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 26 October.
Merseyside Police later released a clear CCTV image of a man wearing a baseball cap they wished to speak to over the theft.
On Friday morning delighted Bailey told how the tour van has now been recovered by officers not far from the scene of the crime.
But he also revealed his devastation – after the crook only abandoned it because he had crashed it into a parked car.
The QI and Have I Got News For You star explained to Radio Five Live’s Nicky Campbell: “The van wasn’t far away actually and what happened was they crashed it into a parked car!
“The bloke whose parked car it was phoned up the tour hire company and said ‘One of your vans has crashed into my car!’
“They were like ‘what in Liverpool? That’s the stolen one!’
“Very quickly police came round and impounded it and the Crime Scene Investigators and forensics went all over it.
