Simon Cowell heads to X Factor auditions in Manchester following his mother’s death

Simon Cowell has made his way to Manchester’s X Factor auditions following his mother’s death on Sunday.

The music mogul proved the show must go on as he put on a brave face and got ready to meet this year’s batch of hopefuls at Event City – although he wasn’t quite ready for the spotlight.

Auditions were postponed from Monday, but the talent show boss has shown his professionalism as he got back to work this week.

He was spotted in his signature denim jeans and white t-shirt, looking determined as he left his hotel and got into his car to head to the first round of performances for the upcoming series.

Whilst he took his place on the panel, he opted not to appear on the red carpet alongside the other judges.

On Tuesday, he paid tribute to his mum as he thanked fans for the overwhelming messages for support he has received.

He tweeted: “My family lost someone very special on Sunday. My Mum.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the kind messages received. Thank you. X”

Meanwhile, it was her big debut – after months of speculation it was Rita Ora’s time to shine.

So it’s little surprise that the singer opted for a typically flamboyant outfit as she arrived for the first auditions in Manchester today.

Arriving just after fellow just Cheryl Fernandez-Versini the 24-year-old attempted to steal the limelight in a red minidress featuring a large gold buckled belt and bizarre sash detail.
