Miley Cyrus has introduced her agender date for tonight’s amfAR event.
The singer – who is a huge advocate and activist for the LBGTQ community – has shared a snap of Tyler, who will accompany her as she is honoured at the ceremony this evening.
She wrote: “Meet Tyler (@tywrent), a 24 year old living in New York City, and my date for @amfar tonight!!!
She also shared a quote from Tyler, who opened up about their “identity, experiences and hopes”.
They said: “My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders.
She told Paper magazine: “I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys.
“And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has.”
“Tyler is a queer, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs.””I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me. It took years for me to find words for my gender identity, and to feel comfortable expressing myself as I am.”
