Perrie Edwards was branded the Yoko Ono of One Direction by angry fans when Zayn Malik decided to quit the band.
Now Liam Payne, 21, has admitted his band mate DID leave the group on March 25 to save his relationship with the Little Mix star but insists they were “cool” with his decision.
In an interview to be played on Capital radio this morning, he told hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon: “Sometimes you have to move on because you’re not enjoying what you’re doing as much as you used to.
“He wanted to spend time with his family and his missus. That’s cool with us.
He continued: “Yeah, of course he had to do what he had to do. We are still great mates. I know it’s difficult for people to see.
“It’s like any other job sometimes – you just have to move on. We are going to just keep going, keep flying the flag.”
Fans appeared to have blamed the blonde beauty for her fiancé’s shocking decision to quit the boy band, because he left their world tour due to stress after found it tough dealing with cheating claims, which he strenuously denied.
Shortly after the 22-year-old singer confirmed the news, one fan lashed out at his fiancée on Twitter, writing: “Perrie’s the modern day Yoko Ono … I can’t believe this.”
Another tweeted: “PERRIE EDWARDS IS THE YOKO ONO OF ONE DIRECTION.”
Yoko, who is the widow of the late John Lennon, was often blamed for breaking up the Beatles.
Sources previously revealed that Zayn was willing to do anything to prove his commitment to the Move singer, 21, and the pair have been spotted spending a lot of time together since he left the group.
The pair goofed around for a hilarious video this week as they spent quality time together and made fans giggle.
They appeared to be in a bar and sung All 4 One’s hit I Swear with the help of some helium app.
We have to say Zayn still sounded really good even if it was incredibly high pitched.
While Zayn was busy messing about with Perrie, the rest of 1D were picking up an award at the Billboard Music Awards.
